Some of the most successful people to date have used creativity to reach their fortunes; steve jobs used his creativity to revolutionize computers and influence the consumer electronic world greatly -- he was one of the richest men in the world. One of the best careers you can get yourself into -- engineering -- requires you to create new products and use your creativity and innovation to make existing products even better, cheaper, and more desirable to the public. Writers of all kinds -- novels, movies, music, etc -- also get paid for being creative and creating a story that people will get immersed into. Some of the more popular artists and writers make a very large sum of money.
To be creative you first have to know how to define it; creativity is the ability to think abstractly, think outside the box. Also you must be very imaginative and inventive. To be creative you have to have motivation, expertise, and creative/critical thinking. To have motivation you have to be passionate about what you are doing and why you are doing it. You are going to want to make a difference in your field of work, big or small. To have expertise you have to study and become very knowledgable about your topic and what you are doing. If you are not knowledgable then you are not going to know or understand what is required for your work and how you could improve upon it. Lastly, having creative and critical thinking is by far the hardest of the three things to learn and have, and some people never acquire it. To learn this skill you just have to repeatedly put yourself in the position where you have to use creative and critical thinking and just overall practice it.
Creativity is a skill that everyone can and definitely should learn because the requirement to become a prosperous and great nation have changed. In the past you needed to mass produce products -- like cars -- like cars to gain your wealth. Now however, resources are becoming scarcer, whoever can produce a product with the same efficiency and less resources or just make it so it uses resources better and more efficiently. So pretty much the wealth is turning in favor of the people who are more creative and inventive. You have to be able to look at a product, like a car, and figure out how to make it run better, be it better gas mileage, more aerodynamic, better electric engines, etc. Or to take a product and make it more desirable to consumers; like making a product easier to use, safer to use, and more attractive depending on the audience you are trying to attract with your product. This will create a demand for your product and make you rich. So pretty much if you are creative and can make something better or more desirable to a mass of people, you are going to be a rich and valued person.
If you want to be rich and desire to be known for your achievements, be creative. Find something that interests and inspires you and make it better. But remember, you have to have motivation, expertise, and creative/critical thinking if you want to join Steve Jobs and Picasso along with other great people.
